We would like to hear from you if you’re:
– a writer with an interest in film, screenwriting or history
– an aspiring writer looking for a byline
– a student of film, screenwriting or history
– a budding or working screenwriter/filmmaker with tips to share
Writing credentials and credits are not required, but we will only accept high-quality articles, which will be edited ahead of publication and checked for plagiarism.
The aim of RSL is to become a useful resource for writers and an interesting read for anyone who wants to learn more about the fact-based film.
So, what are we looking for?
Basically, anything that fits our remit of covering the fact-based film that falls under one of the following categories:
1. Analysis of specific genres, filmmakers or films
For example:
– a piece on the fact-based films of Oliver Stone
– an in-depth look at Italian neo-realism
2. Reviews of (current or older) fact-based films
Any length (over 1,000 words is fine). Reviews should include a synopsis (ideally not copied and pasted from IMDB!), as well as links to the script online, if available, and details of the source material (where relevant/available).
3. Serious list-style articles relevant to the fact-based film
For example:
– “10 films about real-life journalists” (we’ve done that one, by the way)
– “10 actors who transformed themselves to play a real person”
4. Instructive articles on writing or researching the fact-based film
Pretty self-explanatory. This is an opportunity to tell us about issues you’ve encountered on your own creative journey.
5. Academic analysis
If you’re a student and want to submit an academic theory-based articles, we’d be happy to hear from you, too. We enjoy a good discussion about the writings of the likes of Robert Rosenstone and Hayden White.
Please list all sources used, where relevant, and do not send images or other material that is subject to copyright.
All submitted articles will be checked for plagiarism. However, if you’ve used the piece on your own site/blog (or plan to), that’s fine.
How to get involved
Please send article ideas or any queries to: [email protected]
If we like the idea, we’ll get back to you!
We’re also interested in establishing and maintaining a social media presence and possibly covering news on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. So, if you could help with either of those, please drop us a line.
Going forward, our plan is to branch out into script services, such as coverage and consultation, among other things.
Payment
As we’re a small operation, you won’t get rich writing for us. However, we hate writing for free and assume you do too, so we offer a small token payment for accepted articles:
– £10 / US $13 for articles up to 1,000 words
– £15 / US $19 for articles over 1,000 words
PayPal transfers will be made on acceptance of the article.
Of course, you’ll also get a byline, biography, a piece for your portfolio, and a link to your own site/social media. You’ll also get to help to build a quality online magazine.
